"[I'M FRIENDS WITH ALL STARS] is not your little sister's Top 40, but you might be forgiven for initially mistaking it as such. The production value is sky-high, the vocals are moody, and the songs smoo-ooo-oh-baby-ooth. But don't hate [Love-cars] because even your mom can tell their songs are beautiful. Sometimes good songs happen to good people -- take, for instance, Toad the Wet Sprocket, or Soul Asylum, or even Sunny Day Real Estate. Love-cars have something in common with all those bands (softly emo songs, Minneapolis origins, and odd mixtures of sweetness and aggression, respectively), and they share with all those bands an unfortunate accessibility that will make indie-snobs turn up their noses, but in the end, Love-cars are probably a bit too smart for radio. Poor things can't win! But the songs are winners, all of them -- gorgeous, hook-filled, freewheeling pop anthems. All that, and clever lyrics too. 'What's so magic about your marker? / What's so magic about your friends?' ('Call Me Sometime, Best Friends Forever')."
